This was the first Charity Gala Dinner hosted by the Ferrari Owners’ Club (FOC) Malaysia. The dress code for the dinner was “Red! Red! Red!”.

Enzo Ferrari, 6L 651hp V12 engine, price close to RM7 million, only 400 units produced worldwide in 2002-2004. In order to become an Enzo owner, the buyer must has a track record of owning at least 4 brand new Ferraris.

It’s the new Ferrari California, 4.2L 450hp V8 front-engine, sales begin in mid-2009, price starts from RM1.8 million. Ferrari California is a “new kind” of Ferrari with many firsts for Ferrari including V8 front-engine, folding metal roof and dual-clutch automated manual. This is the first unit in Malaysia and there are only 7 units on the road as at today (August 2010).

We had our annual Na Tuk Kong (Dato/拿督公) worship again. This time, we decided to cook at the site instead of bringing in food.

Na Tuk Kong / Dato / Datuk / 拿督公 is a local guardian spirit which normally found in estates and villages. A Dato is believed to be the guardian of a place, hence, activities related to the location should be “informed” to the Dato.

Datos are often worshipped with food like rendang kambing (mutton curry), rendang ayam (chicken curry) and nasi kunyit (turmeric rice). Due to the Islamic nature of the Datos, strictly no pork and alcoholic drinks should be used to worship a Dato.

My Speech 2010

Good evening, ladies and gentleman. Welcome to our annual dinner 2010. This year marks the 5th year of Everest Group. Yes, we’re 5 years old now.

Few months ago, I asked Ms Toh, our group COO, I asked her whether we can still maintain our growth as like last year. She replied me instantly, she said “YES, why not?”. She believes in our colleagues, just like our colleagues believe in our companies. Thank you, my fellow colleagues.

Same thing goes to our suppliers and customers; they trust us and giving us chances to work together all these 5 years; we have friends from telcos, suppliers, media companies here, we have doctors and customers here as well, we have bankers and accountants, thank you and also thanks for joining us this evening.

YES, Ms Toh was right, we maintained our growth for the year 2009… We recorded a group turnover of 54 million Ringgit Malaysia. 54 million Ringgit Malaysia. Or in percentage, about 50% growth compared to 2008. With the current growth rate, we should be able to overcome the barrier of 100 millions turnover by the end of 2011. Did you hear me? my fellow colleagues… 100 millions turnover by the end of 2011.

The year 2009 is also an award-winning year. We’ve won 3 awards in total. We are one of the top 100 SMEs in Golden Bull Award 2009. We are also one of top 50 SMEs in Keris Award 2009. Lastly, we won the Young Entrepreneur Award in SME Recognition Award 2009. All these awards are widely recognized in Malaysia business world.

To end this speech, again, I would like to thank all our colleagues, partners, suppliers, customers, doctors, bankers for being with us in these 5 years. We hope we can continue to work together for the years ahead. Perhaps for the next 50 years.

各位先生女士们，

大家晚上好，欢迎来到我们2010年公司晚宴。今年是我们公司得第五周年，很高兴我们五岁了。

几个月前，我问Ms Toh，我们公司的COO，我问她我们是否可以保持像去年一样的增长率。她马上回答我：“为什么不能？”她毫无疑问的相信我们的同事，就好像我们的同事相信我们的公司。谢谢大家，同事们。

同样的，我们的供应商和客户也相信我们，感谢在这5年他们给我们机会一起合作及增长。今天，很荣幸的，在场我们有来至电讯公司、供应商、媒体的朋友，我们也有医生和客户，当然还有很重要的会计师和银行家… (joke about banker, approve our loan, better rate)… 谢谢你们，谢谢你们抽空到我们的晚宴。

没错，Ms Toh说的没错，我们保持2008年的成长率，2009年我们创下5千4百万的营业额，5千4百万马币，或大约50% 的成长率。以目前的成长率来计算，我们将可以在2011年尾突破1亿零吉营业额的大关。

另外，2009年也是我们丰收的一年。在这年我们共获得3项奖项。我们是2009年金牛奖一百强中小型企业得奖公司之一，我们也是2009年金剑奖Keris Award五十强中小型企业得奖公司之一，另外，我们也获得2009年中小型企业最佳年轻企业家奖。这些奖项在马来西亚商界中都是被高度认同的。

I was meeting a friend of mine at Dataran Sunway Kota Damansara last Wednesday (6th April 2010) around 11pm.

I walked towards her car after I parked my car further down. Unconsciously, I saw a guy standing near her car. I was thinking what the hell he is doing beside my friend’s car. I hide myself behind a pillar and peeked at him. Clearly I could see, he is 20s, Chinese, fairly short, with his black colour Wira parked side by side with my friend’s car.

He was flashing my friend’s car window with some kind of high power torch light while looking around. Within seconds, he hit the car window with something and triggered the alarm. At this point, I knew that a fucking car window smashing crime was undergoing. Obviously, he knew there was something valuable inside the car. Yes, my friend put her laptop at the leg compartment of the front passenger seat. He might able to detect it by using some kind of device we read from chain emails.

Quickly, he tried to hit the window 2nd time. To avoid being aware of his Italian job, he switched on his car’s alarm at the moment he stroke. He failed again, luckily the car is equipped with security film, just before Chinese New Year.

I pulled out my phone and snapped a photo before I ran over to him. He noticed me after his 3rd attempt. Immediately, he jumped onto his car and drove off.

So, the moral of the story:

• car window smashing crime is getting serious, even at the crowded place
• do not put your laptop/handbag/anything looks valueable inside your car
• go install anti-breaking tint film, especially lady driver, guys, go install it for your wife/girlfriend

Our Annual Dinner 2009 was held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur on 19th December 2008. We had it earlier at the end of 2008 due to Chinese New Year 2009 was fell earlier in January 2009.

Due to the fact that I can’t speak in public, I have to write down my speech in a small piece of paper and “read” it at our annual dinner every year. Also, despite of the fact that I can’t write, I insist to write my own speech every year in a very short and simple way.

My Speech 2009

Good evening, ladies and gentleman. On behalf of Everest Group of Companies, I would like to thank you all for your kind attendance.

First of all, I would like to announce a good news. On recent announced Deloitte Technology Fast Five Hundred Asia Pacific Awards, our company ranked number 184 in Asia Pacific and number 2 in Malaysia.

Deloitte Fast Five Hundred is a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in Asia Pacific. Rankings are based on percentage revenue growth over past three years.

Early of this year, I had announced that our group had achieved a turnover of 23 millions Ringgit Malaysia for the year 2007. This year… we recorded a higher amount of turnover, that’s 36 millions Ringgit Malaysia or about 50% growth compared to last year. We are looking forward for another greater success in year 2009.

To end this speech, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners, telcos, suppliers, customers, doctors, agents for supporting us all the while. And also I would like to thank each and every one of our employees for your commitment and hard work throughout the years.

Fukuharu is one of the restaurants at TERRACE @ Hock Choon, a new dining place converted from a bungalow along Jalan Ampang. The actual location of the building is on Lorong Nibong, which is behind Hock Choon Supermarket and oppposite SuCasa Hotel on Jalan Ampang.

There are currently 3 F&B outlets operating at TERRACE @ Hock Choon: Fukuharu 福春 (Japanese restaurant), Il Divo Ristorante Italiano (Italian restaurant) and Cafe at TERRACE (serving illy coffee). There will more restaurants and bars opening up, namely Berliner Stube (German restaurant), IR 1980 (Indonesian restaurant), Cellar at TERRACE, Cigar Bar at TERRACE, Single Malt Lounge at TERRACE and Poolside Bar at TERRACE.

The restaurant is somehow still under renovation.

“Can I have the menu, please?” “Sure” the waitress replied and moved a menu board over.

We didn’t order from the menu. Instead, we let the captain to decide for us. He recommended us to take the chef’s set menu of the day which included sashimi, soup, fried dish, cooked dish, dessert, etc.

The above set menu was only RM88 per person. That’s a very attractive figure.

We were later invited to Cafe at TERRACE for a cup of coffee.

I was walking around outside the building when the owner (or the manager) came to me. He showed me around and told me their future openings. When we were on the way back to my table, he popped up a question: “Are you going to write something good about us?”. I looked at him with big eyes. He then said: “I know you. You are food blogger. I recognise your face. I read your blog before.”

Everybody seems excited about the reopening of Cilantro. Cilantro is an upscale French-Japanese cuisine restaurant located at MiCasa All Suite Hotel. The fine dining restaurant reopened again not long ago after being closed for more than one year due to renovation.

Degustation menu @ RM300 per person. We went for a set and a main.

Complimentary Starter: Salmon.

Magaki Oyster with Tonburi, Tarashirako with Mentaiko on Rice, Tuna Ohtoro with Avruga, Angel Hair Pasta with Amaebi, William & Humbert Dry Sack Sherry. Shirako = fish milt = male fish sperm sac, I seriously need the Sherry to go with this dish.

Pan Fried Unagi with Foie Gras and Port Wine Reduction.

Consommé of Hokkaido Scallop and Truffle.

Complimentary Sorbet.

Japanese Beef with Garden Vegetable and Yuzukoshou.
