Astro has launched its Full HDTV (high-definition television) service called Astro B.yond (or Astro Beyond).
With additional RM20 per month on top of your current package, you will get:
- free installation
- new (free) decoder, dish, smart card, HDMI cable
- 12 months contract
- video output: either HDMI or RCA Yellow; up to 1080i widescreen (16:9) format
- audio output: either S/PDIF or RCA White & Red; S/PDIF (looks like RCA) supports Dolby Digital or DTS surround sound output (5.1 channels)
- 4 HD channels (if you’ve subscribed to the non-HD package): HBO HD, National Geographic HD, History HD, Astro Supersport HD (ESPN HD is coming soon)
The new Astro B.yond HD Decoder.
The new Astro Remote Controller.
Connected to Windows Media Center.
Then connected to my 4-year old HD-Ready Sony LCD.
The video quality is surprisingly good.
The new TV Guide.
There are only 4 HD channels currently but I believe Astro will transmit more very soon.
HBO HD (Channel 431).
National Geographic HD (Channel 573).
History HD (Channel 575).
Astro Supersport HD (Channel 832).
Even non-HD channels’ quality is better than previous. Sony was having problem displaying Astro properly on its older LCD models, my LCD is one of them. The problem is solved now!
